Duplicating an existing Section

This is useful when you find a Public Library Section that is close to what you need, but not quite right. Duplicating lets you create your own editable copy without changing the original.

Today we will duplicate and adapt Summary Español to create Summary French. The change is small — mainly one instruction about language — but it shows how powerful duplication can be.

Note: In older Jamy documentation, Sections were called Components. The duplicate workflow below applies to Sections in the current UI.

When to duplicate vs when to add directly

Goal

What to do

Use a public Section exactly as published

Add SectionPublic LibraryAdd

Adapt a public Section for your own use case

Duplicate it, then edit your copy

Adding a public Section to a Template links to the original. If you edit instructions or visibility later, you need your own copy — that is what duplication is for.

Before you begin

Duplicating and editing Sections requires the Templates feature (Pro new, Premium, Global Business, or the Custom Templates add-on).

Step 1 — Find the public Section

  1. In the sidebar, go to Notes & MeetingsTemplates.

  2. Select Create Template (or edit an existing Template).

  3. On the Content step, select Add Section.

  4. Open the Public Library tab.

  5. Search for Summary Español (or browse the list).

You will see the Section name and description. Public Sections cannot be edited in place — you need your own copy to customise them.

Step 2 — Open the Section in duplicate mode

There are two ways to create your editable copy.

Option A — Duplicate mode (pre-filled copy)

Open the Create Section editor in duplicate mode for the public Section you want to copy:

/quick-access/create/{section-id}?duplicate=true

The legacy URL also works:

/sections/create/{section-id}?duplicate=true

Replace {section-id} with the ID of the public Section (for example, Summary Español). Jamy opens the editor with all fields pre-filled from the original.

Option B — Generate with AI (recommended if you do not have the Section ID)

  1. On the Content step, select Create New.

  2. Choose Generate with AI.

  3. Paste a description such as:

This section is identical to Summary Español but generates the meeting summary in French instead of Spanish. Keep the same structure and level of detail, and include the same types of analysis, but all output must be written in French.

  1. Select Generate with AI, then review the result in the editor.

Both options land you in the Create Section editor with content ready to adjust.

Step 3 — Review the duplicated copy

When duplicating via Option A, Jamy names the copy automatically:

Summary Español copy

The editor opens on the Details step (duplicate mode skips the Method step). You will see:

  • Pre-filled Section Name

  • Pre-filled Description

  • Pre-selected Section Type (Text Generation)

  • Pre-filled Instructions on the Content step

Step 4 — Update the name and description

On the General Information (Details) step:

  1. Change Section Name from Summary Español copy to Summary French.

  2. Update Description to clarify that this Section generates a summary in French — for example:

Generates a concise meeting summary written entirely in French.

Select Next to continue.

Step 5 — Confirm the Section type

On the Section Type step, confirm Text Generation is selected, then select Next.

Step 6 — Set visibility

On the Visibility step, choose:

  • Private — only your organisation can use it (typical for customised copies)

  • Public — other Jamy users can discover it in the Public Library

Select Next.

Step 7 — Edit the language instruction

On the Add Instructions step, review the numbered instructions Jamy copied from Summary Español.

Find the instruction that specifies the output language (usually the last one). Edit it for French.

Spanish version (original):

Write the entire summary in Spanish.

French version (your edit):

Write the entire summary in French.

To edit an instruction:

  1. Select the edit icon next to the instruction.

  2. Update the text.

  3. Confirm the change.

You can add further instructions if needed — for example, specifying formal vs informal French — but for this tutorial, changing the language instruction is enough.

Step 8 — Save your new Section

Select Create Section on the final step.

Do not navigate away before saving — your copy is only stored once you create it.

Jamy saves the new Section under My Sections. You will see a success message, and the Section becomes available when building Templates or adding report sections to meetings.

What you have now

You started from a public Summary Español Section and created Summary French by editing a single instruction. The same approach works for:

  • Changing tone (formal vs casual)

  • Adding industry-specific criteria

  • Adapting a scorecard Section for a different role

  • Creating regional variants of any public Section

Add your copy to a Template

  1. Go to Templates → create or edit a Template.

  2. On the Content step, select Add SectionMy Sections.

  3. Add Summary French.

  4. Save the Template.

  5. Assign the Template to meetings from Calendar or when creating a report from Recordings.

Tips

  • Name clearly — use names like Summary French or Sales Discovery — Enterprise so your team can find the right Section quickly.

  • Keep visibility Private until you are happy with test results.

  • Do not edit public Sections in place — always duplicate first so your changes do not affect other users.

  • Use AI for bigger changes — if you need more than a small tweak, Generate with AI with a detailed description is often faster than editing many instructions by hand.

Next step — test your Section

Before using Summary French in live meetings, test it against an existing recording.

  1. Open Sections Tests for your new Section.

  2. Pick a report from Recordings.

  3. Select Create Test.

  4. Review the Prompt and Result side by side.
